Short Film - Personal Project

What script did you use for the project? What was the concept of the script?
We used Sarah Pitts' script. The concept was about a teacher who is secretly a serial killer. The students get killed one by one until eventually Eliza, another student, kills the killer, only to find out that she herself enjoys killing.
What was your process?
Our Pre-Production process was to first set up a location, start casting and refining the script. We had to make sure every scene we needed was storyboarded and ready to go, along with assigning production team roles. There were only three of us so production took a lot. Once we got the location we set up a day of everyone to show up and stayed until late to make sure we got every shot we needed.
What was your role in the process and what did you learn along the way?
My role was the Art Director and the Location Scout. I learned that actually finding a good place that fits the script and concept of the film is harder to actually do than what it looks, but also that once you find it and get it scheduled it gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment.
What would you do different? Why?
What I would do different is get better people for casting earlier on rather than the day before and the day of filming so we could avoid people canceling and dropping out. This caused a lot of issues.
What would you do the same? Why?
What I would do the same is use that same script with the same director Sarah Pitts. I really felt she did a good job showing her vision.
What experiences will you draw from to enhance your next project?
I will know that even with only three people, work can get done and a good film can get made.
